Issue/Introduction

  • During Stage 1 of a vCenter upgrade, the process bar is stuck at 80% with the message "Waiting for RPM installation to start. This may take several minutes." as seen below:

  • When accessing the VAMI of the newly deployed vCenter Server Appliance, the following the message is displayed:
vCenter Server 8.0 has been successfully installed. However, additional steps must be completed before it is available for use. Click one of the links below to continue setup.
  • The new appliance on the target version is seen in vCenter/host inventory, meaning Stage 1 completed successfully.

Environment

vCenter 8.x

Cause

The installer of the vCenter could not get the updated/actual status of the upgrade process due to an interruption.

Resolution

The stuck installer progress bar can be ignored.

The upgrade process can be continued by going to the VAMI page of the new vCSA using the temporary IP and then selecting the 'Upgrade' option.
