Issue/Introduction

vCenter is reporting that the vCenter VM is taking up 8.4TB+ of space in vSAN environment.

No snapshots are present on the vCenter VM.

Environment

vCenter Server 8.0

vCenter Server 9.0

vSAN

Cause

Deployment type of X-Large Storage Size was selected inadvertently, causing size of the VM deployed to be 4.2TB.

In addition to this, if the vSAN default storage policy (FTT 1 RAID 1) is in use, the total usage of this vCenter VM in the vSAN datastore is twice the size it would otherwise be (about 8.4TB).

Resolution

The vCenter needs to be re-deployed by selecting the desired environment size.
