Issue/Introduction

You receive Alert email is generated every day : "vCenter task and event collection failed for the following host: <vCenter_hostname>"  - it is a vcenter server

Under "Integrations" / "vSphere" "VC collection status" shows "Error" even though user / password is correct and test connection is now successful.

The mentioned vCenter certificate has been recently changed and on test connection, the new certificate was presented and accepted.

Environment

Aria Operations for logs 8.18.3

Cause

This was caused by an old certificate issue on vcenter.

Resolution

Note: Even though nslookup may succeed, if the Domain Controller (DC) being connected is a Global Catalog member, ensure that object replication across the DCs within the forest is fully synchronized and healthy.

Please verify if the issue is no longer present in the logs.

  1. SSH to the primary node and run below command to view latest logs , press 'shift+g' to go to the end and scroll up form there.
    less /storage/core/loginsight/var/plugins/vsphere/li-vsphere.log
  2. Make sure you only have Info messages there and you no longer see any errors like below:
[Date and Time] ["netty-event-loop-16"/<node_ip> ERROR] [play.core.server.netty.PlayRequestHandler] [Exception caught in Netty]
    io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Received fatal alert: unknown_ca
  3. If no more errors are present in the logs and you still see VC collection status as Error in the UI like below.
  4. Restart Aria Operations for logs cluster and if the issue persists restart the respective vcenter server as well
