Issue/Introduction

After replacing the battery on a Integrated RAID Controller. Several Errors are reported in the vSphere UI that indicate the local storage is inaccessible.

 

  • The previously configured syslog path is no longer accessible:

“System logs on host <hostname> are stored on non-persistent storage.”

Failed to access Local data store
Failed to access path /vmfs/volumes/<Datastore UUID>/<Folder>

 

  • When Browsing the local datastore using the datastore browser you receive error:

Operation failed!
Target: <Datastore Name>
System logging is not configured on host <Hostname>
Status: A general System Error Occurred : Input/output error

 
 

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0

Cause

The controller is still reporting a fatal error and also that there are memory/battery problems with the controller. This means that the controller is not healthy and in a fully operational state.
