Issue/Introduction

  • When testing connectivity to the vCenter you can successfully connect, reconnect and refresh but it fails when we try to do "Refresh Policy". 
  • The UI task error shows the following error details:

    com.vmware.vcloud.api.presentation.service.InternalServerErrorException: Failed to refresh storage policies data from vCenter Server "<vcenterName>". 
    at com.vmware.vcloud.management.system.SystemServiceImpl.refreshStorageClassesTask(SystemServiceImpl.java:2222)

  • Error doing spbm data collection error is visible in the Cloud Director log /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/log/vcloud-container-debug.log

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1

Cause

This issue will occur if a Provider VDC has not been created in Cloud Director. Therefore there is no storage policy information available to refresh.

Resolution

Complete the environment configuration and create a Provider VDC in Cloud Director as outlined in the document: Create a Provider Virtual Data Center in Your VMware Cloud Director
