Issue/Introduction

Symptoms: During the "Copying files …" stage, the installation process gets stuck at the following log message(take ubuntu 24.04.2 desktop as an example): 
ubuntu subquity_.log.4531[5838]: Get: 90 https://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu noble-backports/universe amd64 c -n -f Metadata[1304B]

Environment

VMware vSphere ESX 7.x

Cause

The issue is caused by insufficient hardware resources.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, increase the memory to 4GB or more by following these steps:

  • Shut down the virtual machine

  • Right-click the target VM and select Edit Settings

  • Set the memory to 4GB or higher

  • Click the OK button in the bottom right corner
