Issue/Introduction

You have successfully installed SAS 9.4 TS1M8, upgrading from SAS 9.4 TS1M3 and are now preparing to follow the “Converting MICS to a New SAS Version” checklist,
but came across the following note in the documentation and need some clarification:

"
Note
: This procedure only applies to a new SAS version, for example, upgrading from SAS version 9.1.3 to SAS 9.4.
Do NOT use this procedure to upgrade to a new maintenance release of your SAS system, for example, upgrading from SAS 9.4 TS1M5 to TS1M8.
For such maintenance upgrades, see "Update MICS for SAS System Changes."
Exception to this is upgrading from SAS version 9.4 TS1M4 or lower to SAS 9.4 TS1M5 or higher.
The SAS version 9.4 TS1M5, although designated as maintenance, has incompatible changes to the SAS Toolkit and requires re-delivery of some MICS load modules.
In that case, there is no requirement to execute steps 18–22 that deal with conversion of the database files for the new version of SAS.
"

Given that you are upgrading from TS1M3 to TS1M8, you would like to confirm following:

Should you skip steps 18–22, as mentioned in the note and do we need a re-delivery of the updated MICS load modules for TS1M8 compatibility?

Resolution

Regarding your SAS upgrade, and reference to the conversion checklist in the MICS doc, one of the early steps in that checklist will perform the re-delivery of the load modules (Step 5 execute MICSLS1).
You will notice once you get past step 9 that many of the steps are 'conditional' or 'optional'.
For example, *Conditional* if you are using Accounting and Chargeback, then run this step.  For the others, they are not necessary especially the ones that convert the database files and are listed as *optional*.
Refer to Optional Steps for converting SAS for more information.
If the SAS dataset names being used by MICS changed, then review step 20 where it advises you to go into MWF and update the SAS global parameters panel.
