Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Replication has been paused due to additional disks that have been added to Virtual machine.

 

Replication errors noticed under the replication tab > Outgoing.

Unable to complete the reconfiguration task at remote site for replication group 'VM_Name' (managed object ID: 'GID-#####'HTID-######-####-####-####-##########'. Details: Unable to create base virtual disk '[#####_DATASTORE_##]VM_NAME000001.vmdk' for primary virtual disk with key 2002.'.

 

Environment

vSphere Replication 8.X
vSphere Replication 9.X

Cause

vSphere Replication is designed to pause when a new disk is added to a VM to ensure administrators are aware of the change and can decide how to handle it with respect to replication.

The replication is paused until the newly added disk is configured for replication.

Resolution

To address the issue, follow below steps :

1. Remove newly added disks.

2. Reconfigure the replication job on the affected Virtual Machine.
