Issue/Introduction

When attempting to delete symptom definitions related to stale supermetric entries we will see error .

The deletion attempts fail with an error message stating that the definitions are currently in use, preventing cleanup or reconfiguration efforts.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.16 and Later

Cause

  • The symptom definitions cannot be deleted because they are still referenced by one or more existing alert definitions.
  • Aria Operations does not allow the removal of symptom definitions while they are in active use.

Resolution

Action Plan:

  • Identify all alert definitions that reference the supermetric symptom definitions.

  • Edit each of these alert definitions and remove the associated symptom entries.

  • Once the symptoms are removed from all referencing alert definitions, proceed to delete the symptom definitions.

After completing the above steps, the previously undeletable symptom definitions will be successfully removed.
