Issue/Introduction

  • During the deployment of a new Aria Operations environment using VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle (LCM), the request fails at Stage 12 – Install Management Pak. The UI hangs on this step for an extended period before eventually returning the following error:
The PAK action "validate" script "$VMWARE_PYTHON_BIN validate.py" failed.
  • The full error returned in Aria Suite Lifecycle may include messages similar to:
com.vmware.vrealize.lcm.plugin.common.vrops.exceptions.InstallManagementPakException:
[{"rel":"pak_cluster_status","href":"https://<AriaOpsFQDN>/casa/upgrade/cluster/pak/SDDCHealth-8217038498/status"},
{"rel":"pak_current_activity","href":"https://<AriaOpsFQDN>/casa/upgrade/cluster/pak/reserved/current_activity"}]

Environment

  • VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle 8.x

  • VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

The failure is caused by an attempt to install an outdated or deprecated SDDC Health Management Pack, which is no longer compatible with recent versions of Aria Operations. The validation script (validate.py) fails silently within the appliance, halting progress during environment deployment.

Resolution

Option 1 - Use "Skip Step" to Complete Deployment

If the request is stuck at Stage 12:

  1. Login to Aria Suite Lifecycle.

  2. Locate the failed request at https://AriaSuiteLifecycle/lcm/lcops/requests.

  3. Open the failed request and select Retry choosing "Skip Step" for Stage 12 - Install Management Pak.

  4. The .pak installation will now be skipped, proceeding with the request completion. Aria Operations should be available and online at this point.

Option 2 - Prevent Issue in Future Deployments

When creating future Aria Operations environments:

  • Do not select a Management Pak file in the “Adapter Files” section of the wizard.

  • The deprecated SDDC Health Management Pack is no longer required for Aria Operations 8.18+, where the Infrastructure Health functionality is built in.
