Issue/Introduction

  • Autoscale Scale Group created with Grow Rule with a Number of VMs setting of 2 or more.
  • When the Grow Rule condition is met, less VMs are deployed than the Number of VMs setting.
  • The Monitor section of the Scale Group in the Tenant portal shows a Grow Task but the Number of VMs is less than expected.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

This issue occurs if adding the Number of VMs configured would exceed the Scale Group's Max VMs setting.

Grow Rules can only add VMs up to the Scale Group's configured Max VMs setting.

Resolution

To allow a Grow Rule to add more VMs, ensure that the Scale Group's Max VMs setting is configured with enough capacity by editing it in the Cloud Director Tenant portal:

Scale Groups > scale group name > General > Edit > Max VMs
