Failed to install software on host: System VM on HostSystem:'host xxxx' is not ready due to a HostSystem:host-xxxx in Maintenance Mode

Issue/Introduction

NSX preparation fails with the error message below

'vSphere ESX Agent Manager' service, running on 'host xxxx'  reported issue: System VM on host HostSystem:host-xxxx required by Agent ffff-ffff-ffff-ffff is not ready due to a host HostSystem:host-xxxx in Maintenance Mode

Host preparation will fail after 15%

 

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

Host was placed on maintenance mode during preparation

Resolution

• Remove the host out of Maintenance Mode to unblock the workflow of NSX-T installation
• As per the vLCM logic, if the host is not out of maintenance mode vLCM won't try to bring the host out of maintenance mode and reports the error. User needs to manually bring the host of maintenance mode to resolve the issue
• If the provided action plan didn't work, check the error again to see if more than one host is listed.  If so take the additional host out of maintenance mode.
