Issue/Introduction

Host remediation fails via lifecycle manager with an error "VMware vSphere Lifecycle Manager could not restore HA admission control/DPM settings for cluster 'Development' to their original values. These settings have been changed for patch installation. Check the cluster settings and restore them manually"

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 7.X

VMware vCenter Server 8.X

Cause

HA Admission Control is currently disabled at the cluster level.

vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) automatically disables HA Admission Control before initiating the remediation process. However, it does not disable it prior to performing compliance checks. In clusters managed using baselines, vLCM also disables HA Admission Control before the staging phase begins.

Once the remediation process for the entire cluster is complete, vLCM restores the original HA Admission Control settings.

In this case, because HA Admission Control was already manually disabled at the cluster level, vLCM is unable to manage its state as expected, resulting in the observed error.

Resolution

Manually re-enable HA Admission Control at the cluster level, then proceed with the ESXi host remediation using vLCM.
