Issue/Introduction

Does Snmptd probe triggers alert when ESXI host shutdown due to hardware issues?

Environment

Release: DX UIM 23.4

Component: Snmptd

Resolution

When an ESXi host goes down unexpectedly due to a failure, it's probable that SNMP traps won't be recorded. This is because SNMP traps are real-time, event-driven messages, and the SNMP agents might not have enough time to transmit anything before the shutdown. Therefore, it's likely that SNMPTD won't receive any traps or log anything in the event of a sudden failure. However, a graceful shutdown of the hosts might trigger traps if configured to send them on shutdown.

The right probe to use here is either net_connect or icmp.
