Backup timing questions regarding to the migration of the NetOps Portal to new Server

Issue/Introduction

Can we take backup of the netqoportal and em databases one day before the migration activity?

Will we face a data loss if we migrate one day before?

What type of data are stored int those databases?

Resolution

While you can certainly take the backups well before the migration time, there are several reasons why it is not a great idea.  The first and foremost of these is that the larger of a gap between when the backups are taken and when they are restored into the new environment, the larger the gap in data there will be.  This gap would entail such things as configuration items like users, dashboards, and other configurations, as well as other things such as events.  Essentially, anything that is added to the environment after the backup will be taken will be lost and not migrated to the new environment.
