This article addresses inquiries regarding the ability to restrict or enforce security on the participant list page for project participants in Classic PPM. We will explore the inherent security model and discuss available workarounds for both Classic PPM and Clarity Modern UX (new UX)
Clarity 16.3.2
The "Project - Participant (Auto)" access right, once assigned to a user who is designated as a project participant, provides a predefined level of access. This right is designed to facilitate collaboration by allowing access to features such as Action Items, Project Calendar, Document Manager, and Discussions. Viewing the list of other project participants is a prerequisite for a fully functional discussion module, as users need to know who they are communicating with. The "Project - Participant (Auto)" right cannot be further granularized nor the participant list page can be secured to restrict the view of the participant list without impacting the intended functionality of other collaborative features.
Workaround for Classic PPM:
There is no direct workaround to restrict the visibility of the project participant list to specific participants. The project team participant list will be visible to all participants on the project.
If you do not want to provide participant access to staff members, you can disable this automatic assignment. This can be configured in Classic PPM under Administration > Project Management > Settings > Automatically Add Staff Members As Investment Participant to "Never"
Workaround for Modern UX:
For projects using the Modern UX, you can remove the staffing module from the project blueprint.
Description of rights from product documentation:
"Project - Participant (Auto): A user who is assigned to a project as a project participant is automatically assigned this right. The right allows the user access to Action Items, Project Calendar, Document Manager, and Discussions. This right includes the Project - View right. The right does not include the access to view tasks.Type: Project"
