Issue/Introduction

  • RTEP Tunnels are down, degraded, or otherwise in a failed state.

  • The Edge /var/log/syslog log reports duplicate IP's being detected and the IP referenced is the same as what the RTEP is configured with.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.x

VMware NSX-T for Datacenter 3.x

Cause

There is a duplicate IP address configured in the environment conflicting with the RTEP IP.

Resolution

  • Find the owner of the MAC address referenced in the log print, in our example above 00:de:fb:##:##:##, and investigate that device further for why it is sending ARP's for the same IP address that the RTEP is configured with.
  • Reconfigure either the RTEP IP or the device with the duplicate IP, as appropriate, to remove the conflicting duplicate IP.
