Issue/Introduction

  • The Memory allocated to the NSX Edge VM was changed in vSphere.
  • Alarm "Application Crashed" can be seen in the NSX UI for an NSX Edge node.
  • Inspecting the core dumps on the NSX Edge via the following command shows a kernel core dump file: get core-dumps
    Example:
    edge> get core-dumps
    [...] kernel-########.tgz

Cause

Changing the Memory allocated to an NSX Edge VM is not a supported operation. Doing this change while the VM is running will result in a hotplug event crashing the kernel.

Resolution

The supported way to change the form factor of an NSX Edge node is documented under the following link: Replace an NSX Edge Transport Node Using the NSX Manager UI

Refer to Application on NSX node has crashed alarm for steps on managing the core files themselves and clearing the NSX UI alarm.
