Issue/Introduction

Within CloudHealth New Experience under the realized savings section, you will find it's possible to obtain a count of eliminated resources month to month.

The values displayed relate to assets that are no longer available in the following month based on calls via the AWS CLI, or Azure APIs that return no result for that asset, and represent eliminated cost within the respective cloud.

Resolution

  1. To validate this figure you can make use of asset reporting within CloudHealth.

  2. The eliminated waste section makes use of an internal field know as Inactivated at, this field is populated when the platform fails to pull back metadata for an asset currently.

  3. As this field isn't available you can instead make use of the "Last Discovered" field which aligns somewhat closely with the Inactivated at field but with less precision.

  4. To validate the count, return all assets with a last discovered date less than the month end, e.g. for April you would filter to all assets with a Last Discovered date < 30/4/Year
