Issue/Introduction

After taking a snapshot on a VM residing in a vSAN ESA Cluster, the storage used reports an incorrect number in vSphere

Example of Before Snapshot VM is using up 31.11GB of storage, which is normal:

Example of after snapshot the storage usage is only showing 72.1 mb, which is the snapshot delta change alone:

Environment

vSAN ESA 8.0

Cause

This is a known issue in where space usage is being reported incorrectly.

vCenter is incorrectly reporting the snapshot delta size for the entire space occupied for the vSAN object, instead of using total size of base + delta.

Resolution

Currently there is no workaround for this issue, it is cosmetic in nature and space usage will return to normal once snapshot is deleted.

Engineering is aware of the issue and it will be addressed in a future release of vCenter Server.
