Issue/Introduction

  • VC UI shows expiring license banner on VCF / VVF 9.0 environments - "You have expired or expiring version 9+ licenses in the inventory".

  • This License warning is observed even though VCF Ops is properly registered as Licensed and Administration -> Licensing -> Version 9+ Licenses Tab in VC UI shows "Yes" for "This vCenter Instance Fully Licensed".

Environment

VCF 9.0

VVF 9.0

Cause

This issue can occur in environments where a vSAN cluster was previously enabled and subsequently disabled. Despite the feature being turned off, the vSAN asset may persist in the vCenter inventory, often reverting to an "Evaluation" license mode.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting vCenter 9.0 and currently there is no resolution. Broadcom Engineering is working towards fixing this issue in a future release.

Workaround

This warning can be safely ignored as it doesn't impact workloads. Perform any of below steps to remove the Warning banner :

Option 1:
Assign a VSAN Add-on through the VCF Ops. VSAN Add-on is by default part of VCF and VVF bundles.

Option 2:
Create a new Cluster and migrate the hosts to the new Cluster. Decommission the old Cluster once the hosts are migrated.
