Failed disk replacement in vSAN OSA

Issue/Introduction

While trying to put the affected node in MM through vCenter vSphere Client below error is observed 



++A warning is displayed "The disk group cannot be removed/recreated/unmounted"
++Http failure response for https://vcenter/ui/h5-vsan/rest/proxy/service/com.vmware.vsan.client.services.precheck.PrecheckService/getPrecheckReport: 401 OK

Environment

VMware vSAN 

Cause

• pre-check is failing as host is unable to query the disk as its in failed state

Resolution

Follow KB : How to manually manage and configure a vSAN disk group using esxcli commands to remove disk from cmd line using below cmd

esxcli vsan storage remove -u <VSAN Disk Group UUID>

 

In a case where Deduplication & Compression feature is enabled on the affected Disk Group:

• Cache Disk failure --> The whole Disk Group will be down
• Capacity Disk failure --> The whole Disk Group will be down

In a case where Deduplication & Compression feature is not enabled:

• Cache Disk failure --> The whole Disk Group will be down
• Capacity Disk failure --> Only the failed Disk will be down
