Edit Multipathing Policy is missing from the VM Hardware configuration tab in vSphere 8.x

Issue/Introduction

• After upgrading vCenter Server to 8.0 you can no longer use the virtual machine hardware configuration UI in vSphere Client to configure multi-pathing for RDMs.
• Unable to click on Physical LUNs under VM hardware configuration for RDM disks

 

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Cause

This functionality is removed in vSphere 8.x and later.

Resolution

Please use the following steps to set the necessary multipathing policy:

1. In the vSphere Client Hosts & Clusters view, select the ESXi host the specific virtual machine is registered on.
2. Go to Configure > Storage Devices
3. Select the specific storage device (LUN) the RDM disk is using
4. In the Details view locate the section Properties > Multipathing Policies
5. Click on Actions > Edit Multipathing to update the multipathing policy for the RDM.
