Issue deleting VMs in Cloud Director after removal from vCenter

Issue/Introduction

  • a VM deployment failed and the VM was already deleted accidently
  • a VM shows in Inconsistent state and all administrative tasks are greyed out inside the VM.
  • the VM shows in status 'COPYING_CONTENTS'
  • when trying to delete a VM in Cloud Director it failed with error:
    No row with the given identifier exists: [com.vmware.vcloud.fabric.compute.model.ComputeVmModel#efea####-####-####-####-############]
  • the log file /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/logs/vcloud-container-debug.log shows the following Exception:
    org.hibernate.ObjectNotFoundException: No row with the given identifier exists: [com.vmware.vcloud.fabric.compute.model.ComputeVmModel#efea####-####-####-####-############]
            at org.hibernate.impl.SessionFactoryImpl$2.handleEntityNotFound(SessionFactoryImpl.java:409)
            at org.hibernate.proxy.AbstractLazyInitializer.checkTargetState(AbstractLazyInitializer.java:108)
            at org.hibernate.proxy.AbstractLazyInitializer.initialize(AbstractLazyInitializer.java:97)

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6
VMware Cloud Director 10.5.1

Cause

This issue occurs due to a stale VM references in the Cloud Director Database.
