MTA Service Fails to Start After CAS Communication Issue

Issue/Introduction

The Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) service on a Symantec Messaging Gateway (SMG) scanner fails to start following a disruption in communication with Content Analysis Servers (CAS).

Environment

SMG 10.8 10.9

Resolution

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Navigate to Administration > Hosts > Configuration > [edit affected Scanner] > Services.

  2. Check the option: "Do not accept incoming messages" and save the changes.

  3. Then, go back to Services and start the MTA service from the Web Interface.

Once the MTA service starts successfully, you can return to the same configuration page and check the “Accept and deliver messages normally” option to resume normal operation.
