Issue/Introduction

In VMware Aria Operations, reports intermittently display virtual machine (VM) names either from VMware Cloud Director (VCD) or from vCenter Server. This behavior was confirmed by generating reports multiple times in Aria Operations and observing that the VM name source randomly switched between vCenter and VCD.

Environment

  • VMware Aria Operations 8.x

  • VMware Cloud Director (VCD) 10.5.1

  • VMware Aria Operations Management Pack for VMware Cloud Director

Cause

The issue is caused by an incompatibility between the installed version of the VMware Cloud Director Management Pack and the version of VCD in use.

Resolution

Upgrade the VMware Cloud Director Management Pack in Aria Operations to a version that is compatible with your current VCD version. Once the product versions are compatible, Aria operations reports will consistently show the VM names from vCenter.
