Issue/Introduction

- Its a new NSX environment, after the setup 2 of the Edges are in UP state but 3rd Edge is in Down State and tunnels of that node are also in Down state as shown:

- We then checked on the Host where this Edge transport node is present and it had 2 uplinks connected to ToR customer's switch

- As a next test we then moved this Edge TN to another host and the status of the Edge came to UP state and tunnels are also up indicating the issue on the uplinks of Host

- Next we then placed the Edge back to the initial Host and then disabled the 2nd uplink vmnic and we could see state still UP

- But when we disabled the 1st uplink and 2nd being active, the status went back to Down state indicating issue with missing VLAN configuration on ToR switch

- Also the captures at Host's 2nd uplink shows no TEP traffic coming on that due to missing VLAN configuration

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

This issue is caused due to missing VLAN configurations on the customer's ToR switch (connected to ESXi Host where this Edge TN is present) causing the TEP connectivity issues and hence status of Edge showing DOWN

Resolution

After configuring the correct TEP VLAN configurations on the ToR switch TEP tunnels are UP and so is the Edge Transport node state
