Issue/Introduction

When a PXE configuration is built/rebuilt, one or more NBS servers show the configuration failed to build properly

Bootwiz log on the NBS site server shows no errors after the rebuild

Site server logs may show an error similar to the following:
Preboot Cfg: Configuration 'example', guid 'xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx' is marked as 'failed' in registry

It may also be noticed that PXE services do not restart after bootwiz.exe runs on the site server

A new NBS server was installed and PXE configurations build without issue there

Environment

Deployment Solution 8.x

Cause

In at least one occurrence of the reported issue, pxefixup.bat was failing to clean up mount points in registry

pxefixup.log on the site server (\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\Deployment\SBS\Images\<PXE CONFIG NAME>\x64) shows an error similar to the following:
ERROR: Unmounted Bootwiz image
Failed to Unmount image 50
The system cannot find the path specified.

Re-running pxefixup.bat results in the same error and NBS services are not automatically restarted after the rebuild

Resolution

pxefixup.bat temporarily mounts rebuilding PXE images in registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WIMMount\Mounted Images. When we checked this reg key we found several GUID entries below representing mounted images that hadn't been cleaned up.

To resolve the issue, manually delete all GUID folders under Mounted Images reg key, then restart NBS services and rebuild any previously failed PXE configurations
