Creating a custom C:\ Template for several hosts using the rsp probe

This document shows how to configure the RSP probe to monitor Groups of hosts with both MB and percent.


If there are several hosts that have very large hard drives and hosts that have smaller hard drives, it is much more beneficial to monitor the large drives with MB; otherwise, RSP will alarm these hosts prematurely.  The smaller drives can be configured to alarm with percent without any issues.

Creating a Custom C:\ Template for Several Hosts

Custom templates need to be created for certain drives to be configured to monitor with MB and others to alarm with percent.  To begin, click on the ‘Advanced Configuration section of the probe GUI:

  • Expand Config Format and the Templates sections to reveal sections such as CPU, Disk, Load, Memory, ect.  In this example, we will be creating a custom Disk template called ‘Test_Disk’.  Right click on the disk folder section under Templates and select Add template.  Add a Name to this template and select the Quality of Service for disk size to monitor in MB.

  • Right click on the Test_disk template to Add an alarm condition.  Alarm conditions can be added for Clear, High, Low, and Not_found.

  • Right click on the groups section to add a new section.  We will call this section Test_group.

  • Click on the Add Host Profile(s) button to add hosts to the Test_group template.  You can add many hosts and/or ip addresses to a Template group quickly using this methodology.

  • Navigate into the Advanced Configuration Mode once again and expand the Config Format, Groups, and Test_group sections to add an instance to the disk template.

  • Expand the Groups/Test_group/disk section and right click on the C:\ drive to Add an alarm that will be used to monitor the drive from the hosts configured.

  • As you can see in the below images, some of the hosts are not monitoring by MB and others monitor by percent.

  • Lastly, select the General Setup for performing a Force Group Override check box at the bottom of the Setup section, which will cause all custom groups to be overridden with the custom templates, instead of the default templates being used.

Additional Information:

***Note:  If you do not select the Force Group Override check box, then some of the custom groups and templates will not alarm correctly or adhere to the groups they are configured to use.
