Issue/Introduction

VM that was installed on local ESXi datastore.

VM filled the ESXi datastore and now the datastore and VM are inaccessible.

Unable to regain access to the datastores as they are full and show inaccessible

Environment

vSphere ESXI.7X and above.

Cause

Local Datastore has filled to max compacity. If left unchecked, a VMFS volume grows until only 100 MB of space remains, at which time issues may occur. 100 MB is defined as a critical threshold at which ESX system administrators must take immediate action to correct the issue because VMware VMFS stops growing at this point.

This has caused the virtual machines to lock and datastore to become inaccessible.
