Issue/Introduction

  • NSX manager UI shows host transport node in 'Host Disconnected' state.

  • Resolve button does not change host status.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

Heartbeats are sent every minute from the manager node to the host node. If the heartbeats are not received then host is marked as disconnected.

Resolution

There are multiple reasons for a host to show as disconnected in the NSX UI, ranging from certificate issues to network reachability problems.

  1. Check if vCenter and NSX manager can ping ESXi host.
  2. If the management interfaces of the ESXi hosts are in different networks then check if correct default gateway is configured and gateway is reachable.
  3. Check for any VLAN or routing issues in the physical network.
  4. Check to see if there are expired certificates from the NSX Manager UI. This can also be checked with the NSX CARR Script.
  5. Ensure the NSX management agent is running via the following command /etc/init.d/nsx-proxy status

Additional Information

These are some of the issues that may result in a host showing as disconnected in the NSX UI.
