Issue/Introduction

When a user change the community string of a device Spectrum will generate an event code 0x1003b.  The event does not indicate which user made the community string change.

The purpose of this KB is to provide instruction on how to include the name of the user that changed to the community string in the event.

Environment

All supported DX NetOps Spectrum releases

Resolution

To achieve what you would like to do, you'll need to take the following steps:

  1. Login as the Spectrum install user and set the following parameter in the <SPECROOT>/SS/.vnmrc file to "true" like the following:
    log_user_events=true
  2. Save the file and then run the following commands to reload this file without having to restart the SpectroSERVER process to read in the changes:
    cd <SPECROOT>/vnmsh
    ./connect
    ./update action=0x10700 mh=<VNM_MODEL_HANDLE>

Now you will see the user name in the Event.
