Issue/Introduction

Unable to enable vTPM on VMs. TPM is enabled on hosts but, option to add vTPM hardware is not on option on VMs.

Environment

vSphere 7.x and 8.x

Cause

Configuration of Key provider in the vSphere environment is needed

 

Resolution

Validate that vTPM requirements are met and configure a key provider and create vTPM equipped VMs following guidelines in:

Creating new virtual machine with virtual Trusted Platform Module (vTPM) device fails with the error "A general runtime error occurred. Key provider WIndows11 is not compatible with the host <hostname>. Reason: "TPM2 device is required"
