Issue/Introduction

Users may encounter a failure when executing the "Set CPU Count and Memory on VM" action. The error message includes isPowerAllowed: false, which prevents modification of CPU or memory settings on a virtual machine.

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x and above.

Cause

This issue occurs under the following conditions:

  • The virtual machine is powered on at the time of the action.

  • Memory Hot Plug is not enabled for the VM in vCenter.

Resolution

To resolve the issue and successfully perform the action:

  1. Power off the virtual machine in vCenter.

  2. Reattempt the "Set CPU Count and Memory on VM" operation from Aria Operations.

Alternatively, if you require these settings to be changed while the VM is powered on, ensure that Memory Hot Plug is enabled.
