Issue/Introduction

This KB introduces the process of enabling Hyperthreading on ESXi 7.x/8.x

Environment

VMware ESXi 7.x 

VMware ESXi 8.x 

Resolution

  1. Access vSphere Client: Log in to the vSphere Client.
  2. Select ESXi Host: Navigate to the specific ESXi host you want to configure.
  3. Configure Host: Click "Configure" and then "Hardware".
  4. Processors: Under Hardware, go to "Processors" and find "Hyperthreading".
  5. Enable Hyperthreading: If necessary, click "Edit Hyperthreading" and enable the hyperthreading option. 


Additional Settings: 

  1. Update Advanced Settings: Under "Configure" -> "System" -> "Advanced System Settings," locate and set VMkernel.Boot.hyperthreading to true if needed.
  2. Reboot Host: Reboot the ESXi host for the changes to take effect.
