Issue/Introduction

This article provides a step by step procedure for removing a site from an NSX federated deployment and converting it into a standalone local NSX instance.

Environment

VMware NSX

Resolution

  1. Review and remove all Global Manager (GM) configurations under the Security and Networking tab, such as Segments, T1/T0, Firewall rules, and NAT.
  2. Delete Compute Managers that are registered with the GM.
  3. Once this is complete, remove the location from the GM. Please refer to the following tech documentation: Remove a Location
  4. After the location has been removed, the site will be converted into a local NSX instance.
  5. Log in to the local NSX Manager, then navigate to System > Configuration > Fabric > Nodes > Edge Transport Nodes
  6. Click on each Edge Node, then select CLEAR CONFIGURATION to remove the RTEP (Remote TEP) configuration. This is the Remote TEP address used for data plane traffic across other sites. Please refer to the following tech documentation: Configure Edge Nodes for Stretched Networking
  7. The GM itself is a VM which can be powered off and deleted.
