Alert with error "VTT PG voltage is outside of range" is seen for the ESXi host

Issue/Introduction

• ESXi Server hardware health monitoring raises an alert related to voltage sensor monitoring DIMM voltages
• IPMI logs (esxcli hardware ipmi sel list) shows events with message similar to "CPU 1 MEM345 VTT PG voltage is outside of range".

Cause

These alerts indicate the monitored voltages (VPP - Wordline Boost,  VTT - Termination Voltage) for the DIMMs are not within expected range. Voltage configuration and regulation is part of System Board Management and error in one or more components on the system board can be triggering this error.

Resolution

Engage the hardware vendor for further diagnostics and resolution. 

Additional Information

"outside of range" voltage may lead to system instability, failure or even damaging the related components.
