Issue/Introduction

- Is it OK to shutdown the Dispatch started task using a 'P' command?

- If the task takes a long time to come down, is it OK to CANCEL it?

Environment

Dispatch, shutdown, purge, stop, end, cancel, command STC, correct, stopcads, 99stopcads, syntax

Resolution

- You should never issue the 'P' command to bring Dispatch down.

- You should never CANCEL Dispatch either, unless you have no other alternatives.

* To gracefully bring Dispatch down and ensure the integrity of your database files, you would need to issue the 'R nn,99STOPCADS' command from the operator console, against the actual Dispatch outstanding reply number.

To identify the outstanding reply number, select the Dispatch STC via SDSF, and find the last "REPLY WITH REQUEST..." message. It will look similar to the following:

*133 REPLY WITH REQUEST TO DSB7 V1

The syntax of the command to shut down the above Dispatch STC would be:

/R 133,99STOPCADS
