Issue/Introduction

When attempting to link the on-prem vCenter while setting up Hybrid Linked Mode (HLM), you may receive one of the below errors:-

  • Link failed with reason: Internal system error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: 'Solution user detail' certificate is invalid - certificateException java.security.cert.CertificateExpiredException: NotAfter: Wed Aug 15 08:00:01 GMT 2012
  • Link failed with reason: Internal system error: com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.exception.InvalidSslCertificateException: Invalid SSL certificate (HTTP 526 status code)

Environment

VMware Cloud on AWS

Cause

  • For HLM, the Cloud vCenter version needs to be >= On-prem vCenter version. Otherwise, it's unsupported.
  • In this scenario, the Certificate Exception being thrown is a red herring.

Resolution

  • Check the Product Interoperability Matrix prior to upgrading your on-prem vCenter to ensure HLM functionality with your Cloud vCenter (Product Interoperability Matrix).
  • If on-prem vCenter has already been upgraded, work with your Broadcom account team to see when an upgrade to your VMC on AWS SDDC would be available.
