Issue/Introduction

When there is no NSX routing issue however looking at NSX manager EDGE status is showing as unknown.

Environment

NSX 4.2

Cause

NSX-opsagent service might not be running this can be confirmed by checking the syslog on the EDGE nodes

If seen In syslog: var/log/syslog:158671:2025-06-05T15:44:34.437Z chs-l-nsx-edge-#########.### NSX 11202 - [nsx@6876 comp="nsx-edge" s2comp="nsx-rpc" tid="11521" level="WARNING"] RpcConnection[1119137 Connecting to unix:///var/run/vmware/nsx-opsagent/alarms-provider-service.sock 0] Couldn't connect to unix:///var/run/vmware/nsx-opsagent/alarms-provider-service.sock (error: 111-Connection refused)

Then this service is not running.  When the NSX-opsagent service is stopped or failed then EDGE node cannot report its status to the NSX manager

Resolution

Open an SSH session to the NSX edge nodes

  • Start the service by running this command:  /etc/init.d/nsx-opsagent-appliance restart
  • Then confirm the status by running this command: /etc/init.d/nsx-opsagent-appliance status
