Issue/Introduction

When attempting to delete the cluster the the SDDC manager will fail with the task with Cluster already being removed with the reference token error like follows:

Environment

VCF 5.x

Cause

The cluster deletion issue arises due to the following reasons:

  • The problem occurs when a prior cluster delete task fails with an error, leaving the cluster and the host components in a indefinite deactivating state. When a new delete task is Initiated after the previous failure exacerbates the issue.

  • SDDC Manager Behavior: This is expected behavior in the SDDC Manager, as the delete cluster workflow marks the cluster and its host components' status as "DEACTIVATING" state. When the task fails, it is recommended to address the underlying issue that caused the failure and retry the same task rather than triggering a new one.

Resolution

Resolution:

  • To resolve this issue, fix the underlying reason for the previously failed cluster delete task.
  • Once failure is addressed, retry the from task from the SDDC manager UI's task list

If the the previously triggered task is not identifiable or lost. Please contact Broadcom support for further assistance.
