Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • VM replication stuck at 74% for long duration of time. We see the state of the VM replication stuck on the vSphere replication appliance under 'Replication'.

  • The VM is newly added to Replication and initial sync is running on it.

Environment

vSphere Replication 8.7

vSphere Replication 9.x

Cause

This issue is due to network issues in communication between the ESXi host holding the VM to the target vSphere replication server.

This can be verified by doing a ping test from the host to the target VR server and vice versa.

Packet drops observed in the ping tests can cause this issue:

Also, this issue can occur if the host holding the VM has been up for a very long time.

Resolution

  1. Fix the network issues observed leading to the packet drops.
  2. Migrate the VM to a host having a smaller downtime or reboot the host holding the VM.
  3. After that, remove the VM from replication and add it back and monitor the sync process.
  4. The same can be done by following the below articles:

The replication should complete normally after that.
