Issue/Introduction

AWS report categories were updated in May 2025 to add more accurate categorization in cost reporting.

Resolution

List of updated services and key changes:

Transfer Family

  • add the category "Transfer Family - Protocol" (Direct) which will map to the usage type of the form "USE1-ProtocolHours".

Route 53

  • add the category "Route 53 - Resolver" (Direct) - which corresponds to the Resolver component from the pricing page - to map to the usage type of the form "ResolverNetworkInterface"
  • add the category "Route 53 - Query" (Indirect) mapping to usage type with expression "Queries" (similar to the direct Query category)

Redshift

  • add the category "Redshift - Serverless" (Direct), mapping to the usage types "Redshift:ServerlessUsage"
  • add the category "Redshift - Storage" (Direct), mapping to usage types of pattern "RMS:*" (e.g. RMS:ra3.4xlarge)
  • add support for snapshots which is divided into two pricing components:
    "Redshift - Backup Storage" (Direct) which covers snapshot storage and maps to the usage types "Redshift:PaidSnapshots"
    "Redshift - Data Transfer" (Direct) which covers data transfer for snapshots and maps to the usage types "Redshift:InterRegionSnapshotCopy"

RDS

  • extend category "RDS - Compute" by mapping the Serverless V2 usage types ("Aurora:ServerlessV2Usage", "Aurora:ServerlessV2IOOptimizedUsage")
  • extend category "RDS - Multi-AZ PIOPs" by mapping GP3 version of PIOPs ("RDS:Multi-AZ-GP3-PIOPS")
  • add the category "RDS - Multi-AZ GP3 Storage" (Direct) as a parallel to "Multi-AZ GP2 Storage"
  • add the category "RDS - Extended Support" (Direct), mapping to the usage types of pattern "ExtendedSupport:*" (e.g. "ExtendedSupport:Yr1-Yr2:MySQL5.7")
  • add the category "RDS - Proxy" (Direct), mapping to the usage types of pattern "Proxy(*)Usage" (e.g. "RDS:ProxyUsage", "RDS:Proxy-ASv2-Usage")
  • add the category "RDS - Snapshot Export" (Indirect), an Aurora pricing component, mapping to the usage types "Aurora:SanpshotExportToS3"
  • add the category "RDS - Global Database" (Direct), an Aurora pricing component, mapping to the usage types "Aurora:ReplicatedWriteIO"

Cloudwatch

  • add category "CloudWatch - Metrics" (both Direct and Indirect), mapping to the usage types "CW:MetricMonitorUsage", "CW:MetricsUsage" and "CW:Requests" mainly
  • add category "CloudWatch - Metric Streams" (Direct), mapping to the usage type "CW:MetricStreamUsage"
  • add category "CloudWatch - Dashboards" (Indirect), mapping to the usage types of pattern "DashboardsUsageHour(.)"
  • extend category "CloudWatch Log Groups" with Log parquet conversion cost by mapping the operation "ParquetConversion" (note that Log Groups is mapped by operation and not by usage type)

Cognito

  • existing category "User Pools - Direct" will be preserved for code backward compatibility, but no line items will be mapped to it
  • add category "Cognito - Lite" (Direct), mapping the usage type "CognitoUserPoolsMAU"  (legacy mapping)
  • add category "Cognito - Essentials" (Direct), mapping the usage type "CognitoEssentialsMAU"
  • add category "Cognito - Plus" (Direct), mapping the usage type "CognitoPlusMAU"
  • add category "Cognito - Enterprise" (Direct), mapping the usage type "CognitoEnterpriseMAU"
  • add category "Cognito - Advanced Security Features" (Direct), mapping the usage type "CognitoASFMAU"

Quicksight

  • change category "Quicksight - Author" (Direct, previously Indirect), by mapping the legacy usage type patterns "QS-User-Enterprise-(.)" and by mapping the new usage type "Author-Enterprise-Month"
  • add category "Quicksight - Author Pro" (Direct), by mapping the usage type "Author-Pro-Enterprise-Month"
  • change category "Quicksight - Reader" (Direct) to only map Reader licenses, by mapping the usage type "Reader-Enterprise-Month"
  • add category "Quicksight - Reader Pro" (Direct), by mapping the usage type "Reader-Pro-Enterprise-Month"
  • add category "Quicksight -- Standard Edition" (Direct), by mapping the the usage type patterns "QS-User-Standard(.)"
  • add category "Quicksight - Amazon Q Fee" (Indirect), by mapping the usage type "Amazon-Q-QS-Fee"
  • add category "Quicksight - SPICE" (Indirect) for the SPICE add-on, by mapping usage types containing "SPICE" (e.g. "QS-Enterprise-SPICE")
  • add category "Quicksight - Report" (Direct/Indirect) for the Pixel-perfect report add-on, by mapping the usage type "QS-Report-Monthly-Commitment" (Indirect) and "QS-Report-Capacity-Monthly-Usage" (Direct)
  • add category "Quicksight - Reader Capacity" (Direct/Indirect), by mapping usage types such as "QS-Reader-Capacity-500-Pack" (Indirect) and usage types such as "QS-Reader-Capacity-500-Usage" (Direct)
  • add category "Quicksight - Q Questions Capacity" (Indirect), by mapping usage types such as "QS-Q-Query-Capacity-500-Pack" 

OpenSearch

  • enhance category "OpenSearch - Storage" by also mapping the usage types "ES:GP3-PIOPS" and "ES:GP3-Provisioned-ThroughPut"

Q

  • add new product category "Amazon Q"
  • add category "Amazon Q - Business Lite" (Direct), mapping the business lite subscriptions with usage type such as "Amazon-Q-Business-Lite-Month"
  • add category "Amazon Q - Business Pro" (Direct), mapping the business pro subscriptions with usage type such as "Amazon-Q-Business-Pro-Month"
  • add category "Amazon Q - Starter Index" (Direct), mapping usage type such as "Q-Business-Starter-Index" and "AmazonQ-Index" (older model?)
  • add category "Amazon Q - Enterprise Index" (Direct), mapping usage type such as "Q-Business-Enterprise-Index"
