Issue/Introduction

Despite the successful configuration of SNMP traps and outbound notifications in Aria Operations, the SNMP traps are still not reaching the Netcool system.

Validation will also display as successful

Example:

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

  • In a clustered environment, it was observed that only the Aria Operations VIP was permitted through the firewall, while the individual analytics nodes were not
  • Firewall rules are blocking UDP port 162, either for inbound traffic at the receiver or outbound traffic at the source.

Resolution

An SNMP trap is a notification message sent by a device to indicate an event or issue. Aria Operations can be configured to receive these messages and respond by generating alerts or initiating actions.
SNMP traps are sent from each individual analytics node.
