Issue/Introduction

The VMware Product Interoperability Matrix and product associated release notes detail supported components by major and minor versions. While available patch versions are often listed, future patches are not.

Environment

5.x

Resolution

Patch release components that meet the major and minor versions defined in the release notes will be supported.

e.g.

  • TCP 5.0 supports NSX Avi 30.2. Therefore, TCA 5.0 would also support 30.2.2 and 30.2.3. NSX Avi 31.1 would differ in both the major and minor version and would NOT be supported.
  • TCP 5.0 supports vSphere 8.0 U3. Therefore, TCA 5.0 would also support vSphere 8.0U3s.

Additional Information

  • Major release (for example vSphere 8.0)
    • Major releases generally contain new features and functionality. Major releases may also include significant changes in architecture, deployment, and operations.
  • Minor release (for example vSphere 8.1)
    • Minor releases generally contain new features in functionality but also may focus on enhancing existing capabilities from both technical and user experience perspectives.
  • Update release (for example vSphere 8.0U3)
    • Update releases, sometimes called Maintenance releases generally contain bug fixes, compatibility enhancements, and user experience improvements. In some cases, update releases may contain minor new features and functionality.
  • Patch release (for example vSphere 8.0U3s)
    • Minor releases generally contain new features in functionality but also may focus on enhancing existing capabilities from both technical and user experience perspectives.

Note: All minor / update / patch releases inherit their lifecycle from the parent major release.
