Error : SRA command 'discoverDevices' failed while running a planned migration

Issue/Introduction

• Planned migration gets stuck and ultimately fails while changing storage to read-only
• The operation fails while running 'discoverDevices'.
• The below error is noticed in the DR UI:

 

Environment

• VMware Live Site Recovery 9.x
• VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.x

Cause

• The issue is caused since "discoverDevices" command by the SRA fails
• In the recovery workflow, VMs in the source site are first powered off
• The replicated datastores are then unmounted and the backing devices detached
• The SRA then runs a "discoverDevices" command before changing the state of the device to "Read Only"
• /var/log/vmware/SRM/vmware-dr.log has the below entries for the failure:

Resolution

• The "discoverDevices" command is issued by the Storage Replication Adapter as part of the Recovery workflow
• This lies outside the scope of VMware Site Recovery Manager and thus needs to be investigated by the storage vendor
• Please contact the storage vendor to investigate the cause of the issue
