Issue/Introduction

Using Windows Server 2019 running XCOM "r12.0 23053 SP00 64bit".
A loopback transfer using specific user credentials is successful.
However the same transfer from a remote server running "r11.6 17090 SP02 64bit" fails with error:

XCOMN0287E Error setting remote User ID

Environment

XCOM™ Data Transport® for Windows

Resolution

NOTE: "r11.6 17090 SP02 64bit" ended support on May 31, 2024 per General Availability Announcement for XCOM Data Transport for Windows 12.0 End of Service for XCOM Data Transport for Windows 11.6 SP02

Comparing the 2 trace files from the loopback transfer and the remote transfer, the loopback transfer password is interpreted as a passphrase, but the remote transfer password is interpreted as a password.
It was then discovered that the password length is 32 characters.

"r11.6 17090 SP02 64bit" is the GA version of 11.6 SP02 and does not support passwords greater than 31 characters.
Passphrase support for passwords up to 100 characters was delivered in 11.6 SP02 PTF SO05626 (build 18090).
This is documented on this page XCOM™ Data Transport® for Windows 11.6 Service Packs > Release Notes > New Features under the section "Service Pack 11.6.02".

Support recreated the problem with a 32 character password and see the same same symptoms in their trace files.
The successful local loopback transfer password is being interpreted as a passphrase but the remote transfer password is still being interpreted as password because of how the remote server is sending the password. After they applied SO05626 the same transfer was successful.

Rather than applying the PTF Support would strongly advise to upgrade to a supported version 11.6 SP03 or 12.0 where the problem will also be resolved. After upgrade if also apply the latest PTF (contains cumulative fixes) it would prevent encountering any known problems which have been fixed.
