Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • Automation has an integration set up with Aria Ops, which has the Automation management pack installed and data collection is up to date
  • There is a virtual machine with an active alert in Aria Ops, and this VM is part of a deployment in Aria Automation
  • Nonetheless, we don't see any alerts in the Alerts tab of the deployment in Automation and the health status is still green / "Good".

Environment

  • VMware Aria Automation 8.x, integrated with Aria Operations

Cause

The Alerts tab on a deployment in Aria Automation shows alerts for the deployment as a whole, not for its constituent objects such as VMs

Resolution

To get alerts into this tab:

  1. Please create alert definitions in Aria Operations with Base Object Type = Deployment, for it to appear on this Alerts tab in the deployment on Automation.
  2. The Symptom / Condition for this alert should act on its Descendent - Virtual Machine.

For more information on creating alerts, please see the following docs article: Configuring Alerts and Actions in VMware Aria Operations

The health status Good = Green / Critical = Red come from the health badges in Aria Operations.
These correspond to the deployment (above, by the deployment name) and to each VM / object (below, in the Monitor tab)
