Output Management Web Viewer

Issue/Introduction

There is a new requirement to retain Web Viewer 12.1 logs for up to one year.

  • Does Web Viewer 12.1 have any configurations that would limit how long logs are retained?

  • Are there any restrictions on how far back the logs can go or perhaps a limitation in file size?

  • The current wvtrace file goes back to June 2022 and audit record goes back to November 2023. Catalina logs seem to go as far back as the latest Tomcat update.
Are there any other log files to be concerned with?

Resolution

1. There is no mechanism in Web Viewer 12.1 to set a retention period for log files.
This related article includes it and suggests to implement some automation to "clean" the logs folder based on file age: Change location where log files are written and automatic removal OM Web Viewer 12.1

2. Web Viewer 12.1 (itself) is unaware of the number or size of any files that it or Tomcat creates.
It is Engineering's (unofficial) recommendation that the Administrator observes the "Free Space" on the disk drive and assures that it always 25% or above. If it gets too low, copy any files that it not required (e.g., Tomcat logs, old wvtrace.txt) to a RAID2 (or comparable) system and delete the original files.
In summary the logs are limited to the size of the disk drive and there is no history limit.
