Issue/Introduction

  • Aria Operations > Configuration > Application Discovery Rule> Updating the new name for Application Discovery Rule is not updated in inventory page.
  • When you navigate to Aria Operations UI > Configurations > Others > Inventory Management, you will still see the old name.
  • E.g. Old Application Discovery Rule name was testAPP and the updated new name is testweb. The Inventory Management still shows old name "testAPP"

  • However updated new name is correctly reflected under Configurations > Application Discovery rule.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

  • When a Rule-Based Application is initially created, its name is registered as the object type identifier in the Inventory view.
  • This identifier serves as a reference for associating discovered applications as resources and is not intended to change, even if the rule name is modified afterward.
  • In essence, the original rule name functions as a static identifier within Inventory Management.
  • As a result, any subsequent changes to the rule name do not update the object type in the Inventory, ensuring consistent resource identification over time.

Resolution

This behavior is by design.

If you need to reflect a new name for an Application Discovery Rule, consider the following workarounds:

Workaround 1: Add a Prefix to the Existing Rule Name

You can update the existing rule by adding a prefix to help distinguish new associations:

  • Navigate to: Aria Operations UI > Operations > Configuration > Application Discovery: Rule Based

  • Select the rule and click Edit

  • Add a prefix to the rule name (e.g., abc_)

  • Click Save

Workaround 2: Delete and Recreate the Rule

If a complete rename is necessary:
